something garish but appreciated by some
kitsch - tacky
Any kind of art or object that is appreciated by some people but considered to be cheap, unfashionable, and lowbrow by the majority can be called ‘kitsch’. Such things are usually enjoyed in an ironic way as they can provide amusement, interesting talking points, or shock value. The term can be used in both a positive and negative way.
