The word ‘gaiety’ refers to somebody or something characterized by liveliness and fun. It is most commonly used to express a feeling or atmosphere of great happiness and abandon, or a person’s personality. The term can also be spelt ‘gayety’, though ‘gaiety’ is much more common.
There was a sense of gaiety in the office when we heard that we had got the contract. It was the culmination of months of hard work.
We had a great time at that function last night. It was an evening of gaiety and laughter from start to finish.
There is a gaiety about Jane’s manner that makes people warm to her. She is always great fun to be around.
