expunge - erase
The term ‘expunge’ is typically used in two main ways. Firstly, to express erasing something, usually a name, from a list, record, or book. Secondly, to describe eliminating from one’s consciousness something that causes problems or bad feelings, such as a painful memory or troubling thought.
That was a harrowing time in my life, and I’ve done all I can to expunge it from my memory.
The informant wanted to make a deal to have her criminal record deleted in exchange for her testimony, but the police said that it wasn’t expungable.
I find that meditation helps with the expungement of negative thoughts.
