denouement - ending
The formal word ‘denouement’ is used to express the final outcome of a story or a complex sequence of events. It is most commonly used in relation to the concluding part of a book, play, or movie where everything is explained and loose ends are tied up, but the term is not limited to that. Can be used in both a social and professional context.

Being made redundant was not a fitting denouement to Brian’s career. He spent 35 years working for that company.
The court case will reach its denouement tomorrow when the jury finish their deliberations and return a verdict.
