confabulate - talk
‘Confabulate’ is a formal word used to describe chatting informally with somebody. The word implies the sort of light-hearted, frivolous conversation you would have with a friend rather than something deep that involves the exchange of a lot of information or emotions. Most commonly seen in written English.
It was a stressful day at work, so when I got home I gave my friend a call to confabulate with her for a while.
After the seminar, the attendees ended up confabulating in the bar. The seemed to really be enjoying each other’s company.
I didn’t meet with the client to discuss business matters. It was more of an informal confabulation.
